Arabian Horse Center to Put on First Sunday Show of Academic Year
The W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center will put on its a traditional Sunday show of the 2016-17 academic year on the first Sunday of every month until April 2017.
The Arabian horses in the show are presented in many disciplines, including native costume, under both English and Western tack, in ladies’ side saddle, and as a drill team. English-type horses are presented as Hunter Pleasure horses, saddle seat horses, and over fences. Western-type horses are displayed both as pleasure horses and as an intelligent and agile trail horse. The Arabian Mounted Drill Team performs a four-horse quadrille routine.
The show is a tradition that dates back to 1926, when cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg began holding exhibitions at the winter ranch that would become the Cal Poly Pomona campus. Kellogg wanted to promote interest in the Arabian breed to educate the horse-loving public about the animals. Weather permitting, the show begins at 2 p.m.
Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for seniors and children 6 to 17. Children 5 and under are free. Cal Poly Pomona students, staff, and faculty are admitted free with ID. Parking is $4.
