Pomona Catholic Girls High School
long history in the City of Pomona
. The school, initially called Academy of the Holy Names, was built in the late 1890's. After the original structure was destroyed by a fire in 1927
, the current building was constructed in 1928.
Due to the need for a coeducation Catholic high school, the Right Reverend Monsignor Thomas P. English and the St. Joseph's parishioners purchased the academy to fulfill that need. Pomona Catholic, which was previously called St Joseph High School remained a coeducational high school until Damien High School was opened in 1959. In 1962, when the final class containing boys graduated, Pomona Catholic officially became an all girls high school.
In the last few years, many changes have come to the college preparatory Pomona Catholic, including the addition of a coeducational middle school program. However, the high school remains an all girl institution.
